George Tiller was murdered today.

George Tiller was murdered today. The 67 year old doctor from Kansas was killed by a single shot while performing the duties of an usher at his church in Wichita. Tiller was one of the few doctors willing to perform late term abortions.

The suspect in custody, Scott Roeder, had been involved with Randall Terry's Prolife group Operation Rescue for several years and had suggested harassing Tiller at his place of worship.

A posting from May 2007 on Operation Rescue's Web site, from a person identifying himself as "Scott Roeder," sought volunteers to "attend Tillers church (inside, not just outside)" to "ask questions of the Pastor, Deacons, Elders and members. . . . Doesn't seem like it would hurt anything but bring more attention to Tiller."

Roeder had apparently been convicted for possessing bomb making equipment in the late 1990's.
Randall Terry issued a statement that did not show remorse but instead called Tiller "a mass murderer" and added: "We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God."
This was the second shooting involving Tiller. He was wounded by a woman in 1993.

I never understood the animosity on the christian right towards abortion doctors. If you have a problem with abortion, shouldn't your ire be directed at the woman who has made the decision to have one? It's like shooting up a McDonalds because you are mad about high blood pressure and obesity.

I have a problem with so called libertarians on the right who are all for individual rights until men or women choose to exercise them. Then they substitute their own moral judgment. Have you noticed that the great majority of prominent folks on the prolife front are men? They appear to displace their anger towards women in general to the women's doctors and caregivers. Can't go around smiting or stoning the women so let's go after their doctors. And then we have the holier than thou fundamentalist whackjobs. I would no sooner consult with them on issues of moral clarity than I would ask Bristol Palin to help me on the issue of abstinence.

I wondered what the good folks at Townhall.com were thinking and here is a smattering of blog postings:

I object
... Considering what Tiller did to helpless babies, I can't help but find his death to be poetically ironic. Those who live by the sword die by the sword. The minute he started killing babies, Tiller made his own right to life forfeit. Justice and pragmatism both called for a stop to his murderous spree by whatever means necessary, so long as they did not harm an innocent person. Tiller's killer did not. Good for him. Part of what makes the righteous, good, and the wicked, evil, is their hatred of one another. A good person hates that which is unfair, that which is evil, and eagerly yearns for its destruction, willing to see to its extermination given the opportunity. A good person makes every effort to kill evil instantly, and does not mourn its passing. Tiller's killer should not be imprisoned and villified, but rather praised and extolled. Give him a parade, not a prison sentence. No justice? No peace. And there's 1.2 million babies every year for whom justice is not served.

obviously experienced a "Late Term abortion" first hand by a person who wanted to stop him from murdering anymore babies. What goes around comes around...sometimes.

"Some psycho murders an abortionist and it's the fault of the anti-abortion movement? Exactly how many baby killers have been murdered since 1973? Two? " From Wiki- March 10, 1993: Dr. David Gunn of Pensacola, Florida was fatally shot during a protest. He had been the subject of wanted-style posters distributed by Operation Rescue in the summer of the year before. June 29, 1994: Dr. John Britton and James Barrett, a clinic escort, were both shot to death outside of another facility in Pensacola. December 30, 1994: Two receptionists, Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols, were killed in two clinic attacks in Brookline, Massachusetts. John Salvi, who prior to his arrest was distributing pamphlets from Human Life International,[5] was arrested and confessed to the killings. January 29, 1998: Robert Sanderson, an off-duty police officer who worked as a security guard at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, was killed when his workplace was bombed. October 23, 1998: Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot to death at his home in Amherst, New York. His was the last in a series of similar shootings against providers in Canada and northern New York state which were all likely committed by James Kopp. Kopp was convicted of Dr. Slepian's murder after finally being apprehended in France in 2001. May 31, 2009: Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed as he was entering his church in Wichita, KS Me- Well, that makes seven... All of whom were inflamed by people calling abortion providers Murderers and baby killers.

As Eliza Doolittle would say. We are sorry; but crocodile tears are not in order. Tiller's murderer hopefully won't escape justice. When considered Eichmann was tried and convicted of mass murders for his part in the holocaust; Tiller got away from answering for his crimes. He benefited from Roe V. Wade as much as the mothers who had their offspring slaughtered. There is no real justice in this world. There are always victims of injustice. Tiller was a victim, but he got justice. Nobody can dispute that. In a just world, a thousand bounty hunters would've been hunting for him and wanted posters would be everywhere: "Wanted for murder of Innocent Infants seconds before their birth." Now, with his demise, many innocents won't be murdered next week. Thank You, Almighty Father!

You know NOTHING about the person who killed Tiller. It could just as well have been a liberal atheist who nonetheless thought Tiller's practice abhorrent. Ever think of that, genius? The rest of us will wait till the facts come out. I suggest you STFU and do the same. While we all hope the perp is caught, tried, convicted and sentenced according to this nation's laws regarding murder, I'm not shedding any tears over Tiller himself. I'm honestly glad the monster is dead.

Someone Wanted Him Dead
Most probably we will learn why at some future point. This falls under the law of relativity in terms of killing a human. Tiller could kill a woman's unborn baby 1 week or less prior to its birth and be praised as supporting that woman's right to choose. That same woman could kill that same child 1 week or less after it is born and go to jail as guilty of murder. The 2 acts could be separated by less than 2 weeks. Tiller invests the tools of abortion and the courts anoint him; the Mother, her new title since the live birth, is incarcerated by the same court. If those two dead babies were laid out on a table, side by side, there is doubt (except for the method of death)that we could discern which died at the hand of whom. There is something terribly wrong with that mental picture or even the notion of the whole procedure.

What difference does it make
what race Tiller's killer is? He obviously had enough of the slaughter of thousands of babies at Tiller's hands. Tit for tat? An eye for an eye, and all that? He who liveth by the sword, indeed! I don't, as a rule, condone murder - beginning with all those murders Tiller committed, but in this case I feel he got what was coming to him; I just feel it could have happened years earlier so that more innocent lives would have been saved from his murdering hands.

What a pathetic figleaf!
"You may not like what George Tiller did, but it was LEGAL. And this anti-abortion guy shot him in church." Yes, it was legal - the same way Roger Taney legalized slavery in the Dred Scott case. Lincoln made Douglas look just as pathetic when he took the same view. Hitler's final solution was 'legal'. The height of asininity is achieved when someone defends the morality of a law by proclaiming it 'legal'.

if murder of this reprehensible human being is a horrible sin, but the murder of viable human babies in ok, whether the children are in or out of the womb, they have their own heart, brain and bodies, by the 3rd trimester most are sustainable human beings, NOT FETUSES. To say any different is being dis-ingenuous in your retohric on abortion. I do not condone any kind of murder, but I will cry no tears for the killer of the unborn, I am happy that someone expedited the meeting between the murderer and his Lord and hopefully a jury of his victims. So Frank and his ilk does not have to accuse me, I am a right wing conservative christian of the furthest right wing. I could not enjoy killing any human, especially an innocent little child.

Marty
Tiller did have it coming and I will cry no tears for him - or his famly for that matter; after all, they knew what he was doing and didn't seem to have a problem with it OR spending all that money he made from killing all those babies.

poor thing, he's probably upset that he'll have to seek out another doctor to help with the extermination of the unborn.

You can see the tears being shed for Dr. Tiller by the right. This attitude is why I have such antipathy towards religious zealots who get their marching orders from the "higher power". Self righteous hypocrites who will commit and endorse any vile act in order to follow god's law. Remind me to stay out of Kansas. I hope that there are more brave doctors to take George Tiller's place, doctors that can help women with their personal reproductive decisions.

Bonnie Dumanis - smell the flowers!

San Diego County has been obstructing the will of the people on the issue of medical marijuana since Prop. 215 was passed in California in 1996. Now the County has been shot down at the United States Supreme Court. Do I think that they will suddenly have a change of heart and start implementing the program and start issuing i.d. cards like in other California counties? Unfortunately, not likely.

Bill Horn, Pam Slater and Diane Jacob have had a personal vendetta against medical marijuana during their tenure in office. The District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has done everything in her power to deny the will of the people and to keep legitimate patients from obtaining pain relief with marijuana. She is on record as saying that the true intent of Proposition 215 was to quasi legalize the drug. Even if her views are correct, they are untenable and disrespectful to the people of California.

The District Attorney has conducted two series of raids on marijuana dispensaries, the latest busts occurring a few months ago. This after the federal government and the Attorney General Eric Holder has publicly stated that the federal government will respect state's laws in regards to medical marijuana.

Steve Walter, directs the narcotics unit for the Republican Dumanis and said storefront dispensaries are not allowed. Walter said this week that the crash and burn of the county's lawsuit against the State of California will not change much as far as he can see.

“I have yet to see (a dispensary or collective) that does comply with the attorney general's guidelines,” Walter said. “I have yet to see one that doesn't make a profit.” State guidelines say that dispensaries can recover their costs.

Storefronts continue to get raided, gardens uprooted, and the implementation of the law insufferably stalled. Rather than working out a sane and reasonable program with caregivers and dispensaries, Dumanis is signaling that she will continue to be adversarial, denying people their pain relief and ruining people's lives. Unfortunately, this tactic will only lead to more crime as people will be forced to purchase mexican marijuana and send more money to the criminal cartels.

Is it too much to ask lawmakers and those responsible for enforcing and implementing the laws to start respecting and obeying them themselves? Is it not time for San Diego County to stop it's draconian need to punish the infirm and stop playing doctor? To start working with the dispensaries to provide an avenue for pain relief for chronic pain sufferers.

There has been much local testimony from extreme pain sufferers of all ages lately who have been needlessly punished by the County's attitude towards Proposition 215. I myself know several women in their seventies and eighties with MS and Lupus who depend on the drug for relief. They are forced to obtain it covertly and illegally to evade arrest and incarceration. Go after crack and heroin, leave these poor people alone!

Once again I ask that San Diego voters remember her track record of evasion and deceit if she ever runs for office again in this county. I respect Ms. Dumanis wish and hopeful right one day to marry any person of her choosing. As a cancer patient who was first diagnosed in 1985, I ask that she respect my rights as well.

"When [District Attorney] Bonnie Dumanis goes on television and says that they don't want to go after legitimate medical marijuana patients, but that all dispensaries are illegal, well I would really like her to explain how medical marijuana patients are supposed to get their medicine,"
Margaret Dooley
Drug Policy Alliance

"I think it is a problem because I think Prop 215 was meant to legalize marijuana, not to provide for medicinal marijuana, and that's why it was written so loosely."

Cardiff Reef

I got up really early this morning and headed towards the beach. We were getting a light rain, a blessing in dry Southern California.

Rainy highways in my area seem to be a signal for the cerebrally disadvantaged to drive as fast as possible. I had a string of testosterone charged Toyota pickups with Skin decals and the like tailgating me in the slow lane, where I was already doing seventy. Welcome to the morning commute.

I made my way to a bar in Solana Beach, arriving there at 7:00 in the morning. People were already well on their way to oblivion. The bar was the Surf and Saddle. (which for the longest time had the unfortunate title of the Tight End) I was supposed to look at a western drawing by Maynard Dixon. The owner of said drawing is unfortunately now homeless and living out of his truck. His hands shook miserably. He apologized and said that they wouldn't calm down until he had a few drinks. The rain was now a light mist which he cursed. I laughed and pointed out that in any other part of the country people would make fun of you for even calling it rain.

Our business transacted, I took a slow ride up Coast Highway 101, stopping at Cardiff Reef first and taking pictures of a whole bunch of paddleboarders skimming through the glassy ocean. Continued on to Swamis and then up the coast.

I felt like I had transported back to when I was a 17 year old and surfed Cardiff Reef in the days of my youth. Encinitas and Leucadia in the early morning somehow felt like the old times before the change in the late 70's when things got commercial. A few surfers, people restocking the restaurants and bars, but no one on the roads save a few old timers on bicycles. The old landmarks, VG's, Keno's, the Leucadian, all still full of rundown coastal funk.

With a pandemic and a D-8 bulldozer, we could really reclaim a lot of cool areas in SoCal. Everyone that wasn't born here or had lived the requisite amount of years would be politely asked to leave. Start with the crackerbox tracts. Then redo Vista and Escondido for good measure.

Do not touch that dial!

I am not a big conspiracy buff.  People send me weird stuff and I am usually pretty skeptical. What's the old saying, never attribute to malice what can better be explained by stupidity. So when my friend Shawn sent me this link, I told him I needed corroboration.

Number one, Shawn has lived and associated with at least two slightly paranoid folks that I know of, the late Mr. Maguire and a Mr. Perry.  Lot's of issues of Counterspy hanging around. Two, one story of elvis copulating with space aliens and the blog's credibility is p-f-f-f-f-t. So next thing I know he sends me a bunch of backup info.  Haven't gone through all of it but you are welcome to.

The upshot is that some scientists believe that the current H1N1 virus or swine flu is the result of scientists exhuming bodies in an Alaskan Cemetery in 1997.

I quote from Wayne Madsen in the Online Journal. :

The history of the extraction of the genetic material from the corpses of victims of the 1918 Spanish influenza virus who were buried in Arctic permafrost is part “X-Files” and part “Jurassic Park.”

After an unsuccessful 1951 mission, that involved U.S. biological warfare specialists, to extract 1918 Spanish flu genetic material in 1951 from a cemetery in the Inupiat Eskimo village of Brevig Mission, Alaska, scientists made another attempt, a successful one it turns out, in 1997.

Dr. Johan Hultin, from the State University of Iowa, successfully extracted genetic material from the corpse of an obese 30-something female who died from the Spanish flu in 1918, along with 85 percent of Brevig Mission’s (called Teller Mission in 1918) villagers in a single week. The pandemic killed at least 50 million people around the world.

Once the Spanish flu genetic material was obtained from the lungs, spleen, liver, and heart of the Eskimo woman’s corpse, scientists, in a scene reminiscent of the fictional movie “Jurassic Park,” in which genetic material from extinct dinosaurs is used to bring the creatures back to life, recreated the long-since dead 1918 Spanish flu in a U.S. government-funded laboratory. The woman’s organs were cut into one-inch cubes and shipped to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Rockville, Maryland, where the virus’s genetic RNA material was identified and the 1918 Spanish flu was successfully brought back to life.

WMR has learned from a research scientist who has been working on the recreation of the 1918 flu that the genetic material has been re-engineered to synthetically create what is now known as the A/H1N1 virus, or as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) calls it, the “novel flu.”

The A/H1N1 influenza, which contains genetic material from two strains of swine flu, two strains of human flu, and a single strain of avian flu, has, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), infected, as of May 13, a total of 4,880 people in North America: 2,059 in Mexico; 2,535 in the United States, and 286 in Canada. There have been 56 reported deaths from the flu in Mexico, three in the United States, and one in Canada.

WMR has learned from an A/H1N1 researcher that the current “novel” flu strain is mutating rapidly in humans but no animals have contracted the virus. The enzyme in A/H1N1, as with all influenza A viruses, is called a polymerase. Scientists have calculated the molecular clock of A/H1N1 form the virus’s polymerase rate. Because of the rapid mutation of the virus and the fact that, unlike 1918, rapid global transportation is now the norm, scientists are predicting that the molecular clock of the A/H1N1 virus, coupled with modern transportation, means that almost all the countries of the world will experience an A/H1N1 outbreak within the next few months.

What is different about A/H1N1 is that, unlike other new strains of viruses that rapidly mutate upon emerging and then slow down mutation and then stop entirely, the “novel” or incorrectly-named “swine flu” is showing no signs yet of slowing down its mutation rate and that, according to scientists who worry about A/H1N1 being synthetically-generated, does not happen in nature.

So there you have it - might be hooey, might be something to it.  I include some more links designed to scare you back into your igloo for a decade or two. Let me know if it's all wet. And please, burn this message.

Salud!

Sotomayor visits Townhall

President Obama has picked his first Supreme Court nominee, Sandra Sotomayor. I have quickly reviewed some of her major cases and her opinions do not seem all that radical.  She ruled against abortion rights groups in regards to federal policy that prohibited foreign organizations that received federal funds from performing abortions and against environmentalists in regards to weighing cost benefit analysis to minimize environmental impact.

Obama has laid out a perfect chess gambit. Opposing her will alienate the hispanic population that the Republicans need to rebuild their faltering base.

I went to Townhall.com, a conservative website, to see what the base is thinking right now. It's not pretty.  Here are a few selections:

Why nominate someone so liberal? Why go for the gut punch: someone who actively flaunts the Constitution every chance she gets, someone who is such a minority elitist that she probably lacks "empathy" for anyone unfortunate enough to be "white" or "caucasian."

Sontomayor is someone who aspires to an elected political office, not an office charged with the interpretation of laws. She wants to make policy, not judge it.
She wants to actively help minorities, not all Americans.

White People
To all the white people who voted for Obama because it was an easy way to feel noble:

The chickens are coming home to roost. Obama still has another 7 and 1/2 years to pick more Supreme Court Justices. (Ginsburg is probably next).

Expect more "diversity" judges with a thinly veiled hatred of white people who believe in open borders and never ending affirmative action.

Everything about Obama is brash
as being obsessed with appeasing the Europeans; apologizing to them for America's way of doing things, Bowing to the Muslims in more ways than one, ie physically bowing to King Abdulah as though he were his (Obama's) king, his lord and master. It's an afront to most God fearing, Constitution defending Americans. This country was founded on Judeo Christian beliefs but he wouldn't know about that, or more to the point, couldn't care less because he is a MUSLIM at heart and that will soon make itself clear.

How the hell does he get off saying America is not a Christian nation? Just because he's not a Christian does not mean the majority of the rest of this country isn't. And to prove he is unchristian we see him appoint a very liberal, unchristian woman to the Supreme Court to help him carry out his evil plan of Socialism, soon to be full blown COMMUNISM by helping to overturn court cases which might have any morality to them, as all liberals failed to ever learn the meaning of the word!

Under Obama, (because Bush is gone now, remember) and the ball is in Obama's court, it's his to kill or cure. But under him jobs are disappearing, homes are being lost, taxes are increasing,, people are hurting in general, & he says everyone must sacrifice, but none of the slimy cretins in Washington (including him) are sacrificing are they? Pelosi - the she devil of the 21st century works 3 days per week at best & takes a boeing 747 back and forth from Washington to San Francisco along with her full staff of goons, costing the taxpayers millions each year. Lawmakers give themselves enormous raises at will, failed companies execs were given astronomical bonuses for screwing the rest of us out of our hard earned money. Obama did not initiate that corrupt policy but does promote it while screwing the working class.

Scary stuff. Now, these are some of the tamer and more learned comments.  There were some real misogynist and racist doozies that got expunged this morning. Too embarrassing, too revealing of the actual mental state of the constituency. Some vile references to sodomites and latina vaginas. Interesting to see the anti woman, anti minority hatred bubble so quickly to the surface in your new Republican Party.

Once again, I get the feeling that there are true genetic, cognitive differences between the two camps. And apparently it might come down to syntax and spelling.

Liberal Arrogance
@ johninoregon:

It is funny to me how liberals love to point out the spelling errors of conservative posters. Recently, I posted on nymag.com and I had some minor grammar errors. Not because I do not know the English language well enough, but rather do to myself rushing in order to post my comment. I was harshly criticized as a result. I noticed johninoregon did the same in criticizing Jillian Bandes. To this I say the following: Grow Up!

All this does is validate the fact that liberals strongly believe that they are more intelligent then the rest of us ultimately showing a great deal of arrogance! Also, pointing out another’s error just for the sake of embarrassing them or trying to get one up on them shows how mean spirited liberals truly are!!!

If we post enough, all will forget to dot the i and cross the t etc,. I often rush to post, often get tired, often forget a spelling but this isn't an english correctness, spelling bee contest, Ha. Who cares, I sometimes post my mistake for clarity or to beat the trouble maker to the punch, Ha! There is enough to observe and get caught up in without worrying how someone doesn't blog perfectly. It's what they 'say' that is worthy of comment! Get over the nit picking, Ha!

Ha. So this is my take, liberals are mostly liberal arts, social sciences types, reading books and trying to poke their noses in where they don't belong, trying to fix the ills of society. Conservatives on the other hand might have majored in business administration, are pretty happy with how the game is currently rigged, they're busy working and paying taxes to support the welfare state and spelling and grammar will just have to take a back seat.  The posters are generally correct, conservatives can't spell!  At the risk of sounding smarmy, I won't comment on the intelligence issue.
