Check and recheck

Conservative talking head Dinesh D'Souza, fresh out of house arrest at a Community Confinement Center, tweeted a picture of a young Hillary Clinton today, with a gasp, rebel flag behind her.

Which is fine, except for the fact that the picture is a fake. Here is a picture of the original photo, from the candidate's days as a twenty two year old at Wellesley College in 1969.

This sort of snafu can happen to any lazy journalist, blogger or talking head, regardless of political orientation. Just because you found it on line doesn't mean that it is real. In fact this is reminiscent of what happened to liberal Diane Rehm with Bernie Sanders a few weeks ago. Dinesh, by the way has yet to apologize for his error.

Robert Sommers, of course, has been scammed and has fallen for these sorts of shenanigans as well. Anybody out there remember this one?

Snopes calls this phenomenon  Fauxtography and there is unfortunately a whole mess of it out there.
