Traffic was definitely one of my favorite bands of the seventies and the playing of Dave Mason was a big part of it. If you like psychedelic guitar, you must admire this man's mastery of the telecaster. Sound isn't the best here but still a performance I would have loved to attend. Winwood is great, went through a wimpy Kenny Loggins phase, but still great - Mason can growl. This was always one of my favorite traffic tunes.
i've said it before, but Dave's "Alone Together" is one my all-time fave albums; great songs, wonderful singer,and what feel he had as a guitar player; just loved his sound on the instrument; that, and the album he did with Cass Elliot; btw, in his intro to this song, i don't hear an English accent, so maybe he's lost it; most Brits living here never do.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Mason played acoustic guitar oh Hendrix's version of All along the watchtower and also was on Beggar's Banquet, though he is uncredited? Also played with Fleetwood Mac for a spell. I remember seeing him at Zookies in Santa Monica, eating breakfast in the middle of the night once in the late seventies.

no, i never knew Dave played on the albums you mention, although i'm not surprised; at the time he was hot hot hot and much in demand, i'm sure; did he tour with Mac?...at the time, Zukie's was one of the few places open all night on the westside, where you could get really good food... btw, i ran into Charlie Haden late one night, in the early 80's, at Brentwood Market; he was in the produce section, eyeballing a mango, i think it was; or maybe a turnip; true story, i swear; whatever...
