Speakerships and Supremacists

I am not too big on white supremacism.  Not really a fan. And I don't know if House Representative Steve Scalise is or not. Some say he is. Like fellow Rep. Summer Lee:

“I’m sickened to learn that years before he was caught calling himself himself David Duke without the baggage, Scalise spoke at the 2002 International White Supremacist Convention sponsored by a group whose website said that ‘Jews will attack us for wanting to restore white America and are responsible for the ‘browning’ of America,'” Lee said in the statement, “and peddled the same white-supremacist and antisemitic theory replacement theory that motivated the murders of 11 beloved members of my community in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting,10 Black grocery shoppers in Buffalo, 23 Hispanic community members in El Paso, and 51 Muslim worshipers in Christchurch.”

She cited reports from 2014 that Scalise attended a meeting in 2002 of a group the Southern Poverty Law Center considers a white nationalist organization. Lee also referred to a 2014 column that has recently resurfaced, where the writer claims Scalise had  previously referred to himself as “David Duke without the baggage.” Duke is a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan.

Scalise denies being a racist, says he didn't know about the group's ideology.  This man believes him. A plausible defense.

I am going to go out on a limb here. White Supremacist or not, Steve Scalise would be preferable to Jim Jordan, a man who is not only an idiot but turned and looked away while athletes at his university were getting sexually molested by a team doctor.

A man who was in on the January 6th plot, right up to his neck.

“Jim Jordan knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for Jan. 6 than any other member of the House of Representatives,” former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who co-chaired the House Select Committee tasked with investigating the insurrection, said in a speech at the University of Minnesota this week.

“Jim Jordan was involved, was part of the conspiracy in which Donald Trump was engaged as he attempted to overturn the election,” she added.

Jordan, who now chairs the House Judiciary Committee, refused to cooperate with the select committee regarding his communications with Trump as the attack was occurring, defying subpoenas for testimony.

Trump spoke on the phone with Jordan for 10 minutes on the morning of Jan. 6. Jordan has never divulged the nature of the conversation, saying only that he had spoken to Trump “a number of times” that day.

A guy who went to a law school but never passed the bar exam. There are a lot of conflicting statements here, if he ever did or did not take the bar, but this lawyer said Jordon failed it twice. Why? Perhaps it is because he is a moron and knew he would never pass it?

It is really not my fight, the Republicans can pick whoever they choose. But I really do think we need a speaker. All of this time spent on internecine infighting is doing the country no good. But there is obviously an internal battle going on for the party's soul. Who knows when they get their shit together?

Speaking of white supremacists, Hamas has some non Muslim supporters in the United States.

White supremacist leaders are openly celebrating Hamas’s attack on Israel, cheering explicit depictions of violence against Israelis and promoting expanded violence against Jews worldwide.

During his Sunday night livestream, Goyim Defense League (GDL) leader Jon Minadeo effused as he played clip after clip of violent kidnappings, assaults and murders perpetrated by Hamas terrorists in Israel.

As the gore played out onscreen, Minadeo laughed, danced, snacked and cheered, “Wow, this is awesome. This is awesome man! I’m so stoked!” and “Come on guys, it’s time to dance! Get those Jews!” As a video showed terrorists stomping the face of a dead Israeli Defense Force soldier, Minadeo responded, “Oh nice. Oh wow. Yeah, this is what you get, you terroristic Jew piece of shit.” Minadeo also yelled, “Let’s go Lebanon, Iran! Wipe Israel off the map! Let’s go! This is awesome.”

Judge people by their friends and the company they keep.

I agree thar Scalise is preferable to Jordan ( as I hold my nose), since you wrote this, Scalise dropped out of the running.

I wish the moderate Rs and moderate Ds could coalesce around a moderate… I don’t care which party the new Speaker would come from. Silence the extremes on both sides.
