Sconerific

We are strange bedfellows. She likes chocolate. I, being of a more sophisticated upbringing and breeding, favor vanilla. So how do we make things work all these thirty five years of mostly married life? Simple. She gets to win most of the time.

I like to make scones. If fresh peaches are unavailable, my go to scone is cranberry blueberry walnut. She likes chocolate cherry. Happy wife, happy life, my last batch was (surprise!) chocolate cherry.

Tonight Leslie went to a comedy show with her friend Penelope and I was able to stage a brief moment of autonomous rebellion and actually make the scones that I personally favor.

I made a cranberry, raisin scone with pecan instead of the customary walnut. I added some frozen blueberries because what the hell and a bit of candied ginger to the mix. Cinnamon, vanilla extract, brown sugar, the usual.

With all the ingredients my mix was a little dry so I added some Greek yogurt to the cream.

Finished them off with lemon zest.

Too hot to eat, will let you know.

Postscript: Yummy!
