Sail Away

I did a lot of sailing for over 25 years. I gave it up some years ago and started surfing again, something I had done as a young guy.... and gave up for many years. I still am very fond of any song dealing with sailing. I also had the good fortune of seeing Randy Newman some years ago at the Coach House. Front row seats. He is the real deal.

My wife and I recently took a trip to Hong Kong and Bali... and I forgot to look for the Southern Cross!! DUMB!! The song of the same name by Crosby Stills and Nash is one of my favorites and since returning from our trip, I have been listening to it a lot. Still a favorite. I still have a hankering to do some sailing!!

The interesting thing about the song for me is that it seems to be written from a slave's perspective on their way to America. Land of opportunity and all.
