Memorable memorial

We had a great three day weekend. Even with my bad back, managed to tear it up a bit. Sunday I judged the 1940 to 1949 modified hot rods at the umpteenth annual Fallbrook Car Show. I judged with my good friend Jim Swan this year. Jim was showing his new stock 57' Chevy 150. We were full at close to 300 cars and lots of car groups.

Perfect southern california weather. Lots of beautiful cars and plenty of characters as well. My favorite car was an emerald green Pierce Arrow. Elvis was there and the Turnpike Cruiser and a cool low rider club from Riverside and I saw tons of friends and everybody had an excellent time as usual. This red Hudson was a show stopper in my class. It was a tough decision between the Merc and a La Salle and ended up giving it to the 49 Willys coupe, which also won the class last year. Came down to the undercarriage.

After the show and a quick shower, Leslie and I headed to Bill and Jeans for barbecued tri tip and dice. Leslie shot pool and started out smokin' the table. Bill and Jean's granddaughter Felicia brought over her pet lamb, a few weeks from auction.

We play the six dice game "Bupkis" that is popular all over the world and have personally turned on huge sections of the midwest by committee.

Monday we met our friends Brigitte and Morgan at the Fallbrook Moose Lodge #1992 and had a few pops before driving to the coast for dueling red curry salmon barbecues at Ron and Lena's. Incredible fruit salad. Hummus, artichoke salad, a very good blue cheese. Bread and Cie loaf. Sweet corn.

Their gorgeous house looks like it is out of Sunset Magazine, Tropical style and should be in Architectural Digest in its immaculate good taste. Lynne Merchant joined us and graced the group with a few bawdy shaggy dog stories.

The girls ended up whipping up a cool batch of cucumber martinis. I stuck with Bushmills.

We ended up walking the beach from Cardiff to Swamis. Not a lot of people on the beach, very mellow. A couple slackliners working the park up on top. Incredible balancing act whilst smoking a cigarette.

We ate and drank like swine all day and had a plethora of dessert choices. First chance to listen to the new Jimi Hendrix album, really good! Got home at a decent hour with fun meters pinned on full. Great friends make a great weekend!
