It's only Wednesday but we already have a clear favorite in the "Most despicable human being of the week" competition. Actually sort of a short field. Our neighboring nazi, Rep. Paul Gosar, has pretty much kept his mouth shut this week. Tuberville is an idiot but not really too venal this week. Putin and Trump are repeating the same old lies. Haven't heard anything out of Gohmert in a while.
Boebert is certainly a contender, throwing a commemorative pin from a Uvalde shooting victim's family in the trash, right in front of them.
The man who is justifying some pretty horrific activities by his DPS. Let's get into this, shall we?
A Texas trooper medic named Nicholas Wingate fessed up in an internal email that they were told to push children back into the Rio Grande and deny water to migrants.
His story is fully corroborated by a fellow trooper, Brandon Tinsley.
Here is his redacted email:
I am all for a secure border. But the idea of a poor woman trapped in concertina razor wire while she miscarries is nauseating as is pushing a four year old passed out immigrant kid back in the water. Cutting migrants into pieces doesn't sound like much of a containment strategy. What's next, 50 cal?
The Governor, in response, makes the case for employing razor wire as part of his border strategy.
"No orders or directions have been given under Operation Lone Star that would compromise the lives of those attempting to cross the border illegally. The Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Military Department continue taking steps to monitor migrants in distress, provide appropriate medical attention when needed, and encourage them to use one of the 29 international bridges along the Texas-Mexico Border where they can safely and legally cross. With migrants from over 150 countries encouraged by open border policies to risk their lives and make this dangerous trek to enter our country illegally, Texas is deploying every tool and strategy to deter and repel illegal crossings between ports of entry. The absence of these tools and strategies-including concertina wire that snags clothing-encourages migrants to make potentially life-threatening and illegal crossings. Through Operation Lone Star, Texas continues stepping up to respond to the unprecedented humanitarian crisis at our southern border.
Texas, and Abbott, you win the prize. Way to surrender your humanity.
