Uncivil war

Speaking of San Diego County politics, did you see the video of last night's proceedings? I watched the entire video, I link to a snippet.

Now this has nothing to do with redistricting, it has to do with vaccine mandates.

In any case, this man got up and called the Public Health Director for the county Aunt Jemima and made all sorts of other vile and disparaging remarks towards our elected officials and county employees.

By the way, the nasty speaker, Jason Robo, is not from the East County. I believe that the thirty nine year old man once lived in Arcata and now resides in the Mira Mesa area.

What is most disturbing is how many people clapped for this guy from the audience. Not my people.

My first reaction was: "Throw that moron out on his butt. No one should have to put up with this." And that is certainly what I would do if this were to occur in my place of business. But then I asked myself, in a public setting, exactly where should the line be? What kind of an insult is too severe to be allowed? What kind of vile language should be prohibited? Invariably this led me to go to the slippery slope argument in my mind. But that is when I remind myself that the slippery slope argument is just a tool we use to avoid intellectual discernment. What is unacceptable language and what is an insult too severe to tolerate? To quote Justice Potter: "I know it when I see it".
