Happy birthday, dad

Happy birthday to my late father, Amos Sommers.

I took this picture of him and my stepmother Shela in a remote Masai village in Northern Kenya. He would have been 94 today. He was exactly my age today when I took this shot back in 1989. He produced so much, had an incredible amount of accomplishments in his lifetime.

A nice shot - you and your Dad have a similar profile!

I see he is using the great Hasselblad 500.

Good to have memories.

My father was a lifelong photographer. In World War II he was in the highest echelon of U.S. Army photographers and transmitted the first photograph of a nuclear blast. He shot Hasseblad and always had a darkroom in the house, taking particular joy in developing his own prints. From a very young age I got his hand me down cameras. I suppose I inherited some of his love for the graphic image.
